RECIPES & CRAFTS
Hush Puppies
You'll Need
- 1 cup pancake mix
- 1/3 cup plain corn meal
- 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- 2 tblsp. minced onion or 1/2 c. diced onion
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/3 cup buttermilk
Cooking Instructions:
Mix the dry ingredients at home and place in plastic zip-lock baggie. Cultured buttermilk blend is easier so all you have to do is add 1/3 c. water and the egg in camp. Then mix well & drop by spoonfuls into hot oil. Fry until golden brown all over then drain on paper towels. Makes enough for about 6 people.
Variations/Hints:
You could always use real onion instead of the minced onion or onion flakes. If you do use the dehydrated onions, it would probably be best to rehydrate them in camp before adding them to the mixture.
Comments:
Don't get your oil too hot (smoking) because these don't take too long to cook & you can easily burn them.

PATRIOTIC POM-POMS
A great addition to Independence Day activities. Take them out on a boat, tie them to your golf cart for a 4th of July parade, but bring them where ever you watch the fireworks and let everyone show their excitement!
You'll Need
- Red-and-white plastic bags
- Stapler
- Scissors
- Dowel or stick (ours was 3/8 inch wide and 8 inches long)
- Blue painter's tape
Instructions
- Stack four or five red-and-white plastic bags in a neat, flat pile. Staple them together several times along the bottom edge, positioning the staples so that they run parallel to the sides of the bags. Trim off the handle sections and the bottom folds.
- For the fringe, cut 3/4-inch-wide strips into the unstapled end of the bags. Stop your cuts about an inch or so from the stapled edge.
- Cover a dowel or stick with blue painter's tape. Wrap the stapled end of the bags around one end of the dowel and use more blue tape to secure it.

From Barbara Vos, Assistant Resort Manager
Hello! This is Barbara filling in for Richard in this month's newsletter from Gettysburg.
RESORT NEWS
Our ADA lift has had its first user, and what a gracious lady she is; Miss Joy was at the pool for the event and she took some great photos! With every 'in' and 'out' we were able to train new team members to safely and properly use of the lift. We believe many of our guests will use and enjoy the addition to the pool.
Operations, Renovations, Refurbishing, Etc.
The tired old foot bridge has been hauled away and our Mr. Leroy has been busy building us a new one. It's almost complete, and it sits on a beautiful spot.
OPERATION NEWS

RESORT NEWS
Gettysburg's Biggest News! Annex Sites Available
We have new campsites to choose from: Cedar Lake Family Campground in Dover, PA & Tohickon Family Campground in Quakertown, PA. Plus, we are in process of adding two additional annex sites for our members use. You may use these campgrounds as you would Gettysburg, with a few conditions to consider, as we do not own or manage these campgrounds, we are guests there. We ask that all reservations must be made 10 days in advance of date of arrival. All reservations can be made on line, or through our new Reservations Call Center or at the Resort's Reservation desk. These Parks will be titled "Annex Sites". All will have contact numbers and some details as each campground is unique in its own way. We do ask that you give the campgrounds a call prior to your visit for further details and see what upcoming events they may have.

Hello from Activities! Are we having fun yet? YES, we are and there is still much more to come. We started our mid week activities and they are being received well.
We added a new activity on Wednesdays called the Riddle Me Race. It is similar to the Amazing Race but based on locations throughout the park. We are having a blast with it so far.
Brady has joined the activities team and the children have really taken to him - he has been fully initiated!!! Also, I encourage you to come out and participate in all our events. We are looking forward to seeing you all here and having fun with you!
Please save the following items: 20 ounce or larger cereal boxes; metal lids from products such as gravy and marinara sauce and old/unwanted silverware. We are also looking for donations of wrapped candy.

June 16; Father's Day
During crafts we made bird feeders out of milk cartons; everyone enjoyed making them and we have a lot of well feed birds! During our fishing tournament, David Short again pulled out the largest fish. I am telling you those fish are going to learn to swim the other way when they see David coming!! We also held a pancake breakfast, so many enjoyed this. There will be more breakfasts coming. Special thanks to Carrie Baker-Miller (our member liaison) and her family for coming out and helping prepare and serve the food. It was very much appreciated!!!!

GREETINGS FROM ROCKY FORK RANCH RESORT
FROM MARK SHAMBAUGH, Resort Manager
Howdy from Rocky Fork Ranch:
It has been really hot here lately so everyone is looking for a shade tree and fortunately we have lots of those here at Rocky Fork Ranch. You know it is 10-15 degrees cooler under a tree or next to a wooded area and we are surrounded by woodland; so, you can beat the heat and still enjoy the outdoors. And for those who are fair skinned or sensitive to tanning we have the indoor pool so you can enjoy swimming without all that exposure to the sun.
July is already here and it's that time of year to squeeze in a summer vacation or long weekend at your resort! We have plenty of campsites and cabins so call and reserve one before the summer gets away from you. If you have already been here, please feel free to come again. Camping is free and we have great member rates. Ask about our special cabin promotion for July and August. Hope to see you soon!

GREETINGS FROM PYMATUNING ADVENTURE RESORT
My how the time flies!!! I cannot believe that July has arrived and it will be soon be August. I have enjoyed meeting so many members and hearing your stories. Please keep them coming and please look me up when you visit the resort. June was the first month that we finally began to see a lot of children and families using the resort. The waterslide area was opened for Memorial Day, we had almost all of the campsites filled, and then Father's Day was a big success.
Operations News
Please help me thank my co-worker, Bob Tanzola, for helping us get some of our projects completed and directed. It seems that we had so many projects going at once that I really needed the extra skills of another Manager. Thanks Bob. In addition, you have an outstanding staff here at Pymatuning and I want to say thank you to each and every one of them for helping us get through some tough operational changes. We're still making adjustments and fine tuning; but make no mistake, they're doing a great job.
Pymatuning is running a special on cabin rentals for the rest of the summer. Sunday through Thursdays, buy 2 nights and get the 3rd night free. Normal prices of $49, $59, or $69 per night apply.
We had a recent change in our sales and marketing team during June. We have 3 resorts in Ohio all sharing the same marketing pool. We decided to put our sales efforts on hold until October when we will start back up. In the meantime, the old Adult Lodge is available for you to use again, please take care of it. The "bright yellow" building is being used as an office for Bob and also a special project which includes updating all the old member files for Travel Resorts of America. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Upcoming Operations, Renovations, Refurbishing, Etc.
I keep reminding you that a new reservation system is coming. We're doing our best to make the transition easy for you, and it creates a lot of stress for us to use the old reservation system with the new reservation expectations. PLEASE, call us to make your reservations until we get the new system up. Also, if you arrive and the campsite you reserved isn't available remember that we may have to make changes when we have electrical or reservation issues. We will do our best to keep the site you reserved available for your arrival.
Don't forget that each Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. you can "meet the manager". Of course you can meet me at any time, but it's an opportunity to meet other people and find out what's going on at the resort. See you there!
